HistoryParAllele was founded in October 2001 by a team of scientists from the Stanford Genome Technology Center. The founding team consisted of physicists, geneticists and technologists driven by a common desire to use cutting-edge technology to solve real-world problems in genetics. This cross disciplinary team developed new ideas and methods for genetic analysis, together with researchers from Uppsala. Backed by Series A venture financing, led by Abingworth Management and Versant Ventures (with participation from seed investor Index Ventures) the technologies were developed in ParAllele's early days and turned into robust methodologies with revolutionary comprehensiveness and performance. In September 2003, the company raised a Series B round led by Mohr Davidow Ventures (with participation from Series A investors) to fund the commercialization of the core technologies through products and services to perform comprehensive genetics studies.
